Killing Nightmares UW Solo
Ive read countless 55 monk builds and they all say to just "wand" the nightmares to death before they strip your enchants. Ive tried this but they cast Rend Enchantments almost immediately and i dont get a chance to even get them to 1/2 dammage. What should i do
Healing Pwnage
--55 monk/warrior--
Bonettis
(Whatever i bring)
Shield of Judgement
Protective Spirit
Healing Breeze
Baths Spirit
Mending (+4)
Watchful Spirit

Some take Zealots Fire and rush over to said nightmare and spam a few quick spells to kill it. Since I most recently did UW as a Me/Mo, I didn't do that. I had 2 options. 1: Interrupt it with power spike. 2: Let it kill my enchantments and itself and quickly put up prot spirit followed by balth's and in the case of my me/mo, essence bond then mending. Now this may be a bit much for the inexperienced so my suggestion..
Aggro the roamer by getting close to the quest giver (this itself may spawn nightmare). Be at or near max energy with your enchantments on you. If you aggro one, move back til it kills itself on your enchantments, if you get the roaming aatxe rushing down on you quickly put your enchantments back up begining with Prot Spirit.
If there is no roamer (had this once) it is very likely a dying nightmare took it's place. You should be able to pull a group of aatxe without aggroing that nightmare.

really all u can do is watch very carefully for the nightmare and kill them(should take 2 hits so a/b 2 seconds to there 3 seconds for rend enchants) or bring a n/me and have spellbreaker w/ u but thats the only way i know how too.

That's a little too much healing than needed, you can throw Watchful out, and perhaps take a warrior interrupt

It's possible, but it takes some practice. I solo UW with my N/Mo, so I'm in the same boat as you in terms of spells. I find that wanding generally isn't a safe route, because even with a customized max damage wand, only about 70% of the time am I able to kill it in 2 hits.
For the first set of aataxes on the left, I usually just aggro them and use the ghost trick (squeeze yourself between Anson and the other ghost..ask around if you're not sure how), and let the nightmare kill itself by rending my 4 enchants. Then I can take my time recasting them and killing the aataxes.
Generally, you can coax the rest of the nightmares into spawning without aggroing the aataxes after you gain some experience in knowing their usual spawn points. However, there are always the unexpected spawns. What I do do counter this is I always have 4 enchants (including prot spirit) on before aggroing an aataxe group. If a nightmare spawns, I click on it so I can see its status bar and start running away. You can usually run out of the aataxe's range before it finishes casting rend, but if not, because you already had prot spirit cast, you can put it up almost instantly after it's rended. After recasting prot, just keep running until you can shake the aataxes (use ghost trick again if necessary), and reapply your other enchants.
Hope that helped

Mmmhmm, same idea as when you do it with a mes... just bring an int and then wand it to death.

maybe go half mesmer, bring an interupt, and possibly a second one just in case you get 2 of them.

The onlt problem i tend to have with them is if theirs 2 or more, it doesn't happen a lot mind, but it does.
I have my music off when I UW solo, so I can easily hear the sound they make. If you hold CTRL(you get to see them before they actually spawn) and listen for their sound then you have enough time to kill them usually. Otherwise run like hell to the ghosts and use Prot Spirit and kill'em easily.

Just make sure you have a customized max damage wand (droknar's collector) that you can easily cycle through to by hitting a key (mine is V... it just goes to your next weapon set; to make this even easier have only 2 weapon sets shown).
But the main thing that allows me to kill them is spellbreaker. I usually cast it pre-aggro on some of the mobs in the first room to avoid having it potentially interrupted by the aatxes, because that gets me VERY dead.

Just take sprint and run away after they take away your enchantments, If you're too lazzy to capture Sb or if u want to try and solo uw by yourself.
P.S: It works.

If you solo it, SB isn't an option.
But if you're doing a 2-man run then it should be easy to kill them with Spellbreaker.

A lot of ranged damage spells will kill them; that is, Shadow Strike (untested by ME, but the 2 second cast sounds iffy), Deadly Chill, etc. I wouldn't know if Smite/Bane signet works, not using a Mo/W for the UW, but their damage seems minimum.

Why a necro? Why not bring an ele or mesmer with faster casting higher damage spells? Why does every monk bring a necro...what am I missing?

They bring a necro because they can max out spiteful spirit damage and do a few other little nasties. Elementalists would cause them to spread and run around...Mesmers I'm not sure about.

Mesmers don't really have much in the way of multi-target high damage spells. Ele's are (or at least were) alright, but since most of the things down there have high elemental resistance, shadow damage is still far superior.
